Tuesday 23rd November

For this project I was asked to come up with a new logo, website, banner and storyboard for 4mations.

Firstly I created a new logo for 4mations.  I am happy with my final design for this.  In my logo I have used two shapes to create the 4 with the word mations inside, I have done this because most of the sister brands for channel 4 have something within the number 4 with the 4 being more prominent.  I also wanted to use modern shapes in order to hit the target market, which would be animators.   I have used bright colours to make the logo attractive and modern.  I have created my own typeface for the word because I felt no other typefaces would compliment the unique shapes I used for the 4, I think this works well as the typeface has a unique look to it which I feel reflects the whole idea of 4mations and being able to upload your custom and unique animations.

Secondly I created my banner.  I did find this quite difficult as I am not confident within the adobe flash package and felt I didn’t understand fully the limitations of the software and therefore what I would be able to produce.  I am fairly happy with my banner as I feel for not being confident and only recently introduced to the software I have created a good animation with a strong idea behind it.  I made my banner fun by using characters, which again reflects the job of 4mations.  I felt that my banner should reflect the 4mations brand and job and I do feel that this was achieved.  I used humour in my banner which I feel attracts attention and makes the user want to see the website.

For my storyboards I kept the same theme running through from the banner, which I think shows continuity and works well with the brand being easily recognisable.  I have continued to use humour throughout the storyboards to make an emotional response with the viewer and again reflect the brand and the mood of the brand, which is quite friendly and cheeky.

For my website I wanted to create a modern and user-friendly site which showed some personality.  I think I have achieved this aim by using a nice colour pallet, which has been continued throughout all of the elements I have designed, I think this works well as it shows continuity throughout and makes it easy for a user to remember and recognise the brand.  I have made my website relate back to the banner and the storyboards through the continuity of the character, this makes the design more fun and the user know where they are.  In my site I have used features boxes so the user can easily see what is new and the best of the animations, this would make them want to keep using the site and look around further.  I have used scroll bars to make it easy for the user.  I have also used a very clean layout by using boxes and headings I feel this works well as it makes it easy for a user to look around and what information relates to what.

I this project I have learned about adobe flash, how to create animations in this software, also how to use this software to create banners for the web.  Also I have learned how to use storyboards and put directions on them.  Overall I feel I have learned many transferable skills during this project.

If I could change anything about my designs I would change my banner, I feel if I knew more about the software I could have produced more professional looking banner.

Overall I am happy with my designs I feel they meet the criteria of the brief and I have looked into the channel 4 brands to look at what they have and what is suitable for and umbrella brand of the channel 4 brand.
